RULES & CONDUCT

General Safety

  • All riders must wear an approved helmet (ANSI, Snell, CSA).
Chin straps must remain buckled at all times while on your bike.

  • This is not a race — it’s a self-paced group ride.

  • No private support vehicles are allowed on course.

  • No electric or motor-propelled bikes, unless entered in the designated E-Bike category.

  • Carry identification and medical info on your person and ensure your registration includes accurate emergency information.

On the Road

  • Follow all traffic laws, lights, and signs — even when police or officials are present.
Roads are open to traffic, so be courteous and do not block vehicles.

  • Ride safely and predictably:

    • Stay to the right side of the white line except when passing.

    • Announce passes with “Passing on your left.”

    • Ride single file unless overtaking.

    • Scan ahead, anticipate hazards, and communicate intentions.

  • Bathrooms: use only designated facilities (portable toilets at feed zones).

  • Equipment: carry at least one spare tube/tire, patch kit, pump or CO₂ cartridge.

  • Be weather-ready: bring layers and plan for mountain conditions.

  • Nutrition: carry enough hydration and fuel between feed stations.

  • Acceptable bikes: two-wheeled only. TT/tri bikes permitted, but aero bars may not be used in groups or when passing.

  • No headphones or earbuds on the course. You must stay alert to surroundings.

Event Policies

  • Authority: Race Directors and law enforcement may modify, postpone, reroute, or cancel the event at any time for safety.

  • Refunds: Entry fees are non-refundable.

  • Rain or shine: The event proceeds unless severe conditions make it unsafe.

  • Cut-off: Support ends at 4:00 PM; event fully closes at 4:30 PM.

  • Littering: Strictly prohibited — violators may be removed or fined.

  • Emergency vehicles: Always yield. Stop, pull over, and dismount if needed.

  • Event number: Must be worn and visible as instructed. Failure to display may result in disqualification.

  • Early turnaround: If shortening your ride, do so at an aid station where volunteers can assist with safe crossing.

E-BIKE CATEGORY

  • E-bike riders are not eligible for awards.

  • Practice safe passing, especially on climbs where speed differentials are high.

  • SAG vehicles will not provide pickup for a dead battery — riders are responsible for their own power management.

  • SAG assistance for mechanical issues is available; riders must load their bike safely.

Riding etiquette:

  • Communicate verbally and with hand signals.

  • Pass on the left only (“On your left”).

  • Look ahead, not just at the wheel in front.

  • If stopping, signal clearly and pull off the road. Give a thumbs-up if you’re fine.

  • Maintain control and safe speed, especially downhill.

  • Know your limits. Never overlap wheels. Help others and ride respectfully.

CUT-OFF TIMES

  1. Riders must reach designated cut-off points within posted times to receive an official time.

  2. Riders missing cut-offs must:

    • Return via Gran Fondo transport vehicles, or

    • Sign a waiver accepting personal responsibility for completing the route independently.

Official cut-off times will be posted in the athlete guide and on-site.

TRAFFIC CONTROL

  1. The event begins under a rolling closure managed by law enforcement. After the rollout, roads remain open to traffic.

  2. Cyclists must stay to the right lane (yellow line rule). Shoulder riding encouraged.

  3. RCMP and Parks Canada staff will control major intersections, but riders must stay vigilant.

  4. Course support:

    • Safety motorcycles

    • Ambulances and medical teams

    • Technical support vehicles and SAG coverage

MECHANICAL & SAG SUPPORT

  1. Mechanics (in vehicles and on motorcycles) provide on-course support for major issues; feed stations have limited tools.

  2. Riders should be self-sufficient for flats and minor repairs.

  3. SAG wagons patrol all courses and follow the final riders. They can transport riders who abandon.

  4. Supplies are limited and first-come-first-serve.

MEDICAL SUPPORT

  1. Doctors, EMTs, and ambulances are on course and in the caravan.

  2. First aid is available at most feed stations and at the finish line.

  3. Serious injuries will be transported to the nearest medical facility.

FEED STATIONS

  1. Three feed stations on course (Gran Fondo distance).

  2. Fully stocked with water, electrolytes, food, and minor first aid/mechanical aid.

  3. Keep left if not stopping; keep right if stopping.

    • Move to shoulder and dismount out of traffic lanes.

    • Use caution — timing continues during stops
